Stadium construction work in Brazil viewed by Pléiades
The Pléiades constellation of satellites built and operated by Astrium is monitoring progress on the construction of stadiums in Brazil in the run-up to forthcoming international football competitions.
Civil engineers use satellite imagery during the pre-construction phase to prepare infrastructure projects and during construction to keep track of their progress.
Brazil is currently upgrading and building major sports infrastructures in several cities in readiness for international football tournaments in 2013 and 2014, and for the 2016 Olympic Games.
Six big stadiums under construction or refurbishment are being tracked by the Pléiades constellation before the 9th FIFA Confederations Cup, an international football tournament to be held from 15-30 June 2013.
