TerraSAR-X Radar Satellite Imagery
Focus on the Essentials - Weather-Independent and in Near-Real-Time
TerraSAR-X dependably acquires high-resolution and wide-area radar images independent of the weather conditions. The satellite features a unique geometric accuracy that is unmatched by any other spaceborne sensor.
TerraSAR-X is specifically optimized to meet the requirements of commercial users around the globe, who require readily available, high-quality and precise Earth observation data.
TerraSAR-X Key Benefits
Flexible coverage and resolution: very high resolution for specific target areas, large area coverage for regional monitoring as well as everything in between!
Upcoming constellation with PAZ: Higher revisit frequencies from 2014 onwards.
Flexible ordering available
Excellent geometric and radiometric accuracy
Serving a Broad Range of Applications
TerraSAR-X Image Products can be acquired in different image modes with flexible resolutions and scene sizes. Thanks to different polarimetric combinations and processing levels the delivered imagery can be processed into different products and services meeting the requirements of a broad variety of applications:
- Emergency Response
Optimised Revisit Time, Increased Coverage, Improved Service with TerraSAR-X / PAZ
The Spanish PAZ satellite (owner and operator: Hisdesat) will be launched in 2014 into the same orbit as TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X. The three almost identical satellites will be operated in a constellation and will support numerous time-critical applications in the areas of crisis management, defence and security.
The TerraSAR-X / PAZ constellation will expand Airbus Defence and Space already broad constellation services consisting of the optical satellites SPOT 6 & 7 and Pléiades 1A & 1B.
Quick and Easy Access to TerraSAR-X Imagery
TerraSAR-X offers a unique spectrum of data ordering and delivery options. These include our Customer Service Team but also online ordering interfaces, which can be connected to your own software working environment.
TerraSAR-X: Highly Complementarity with Optical Imagery
All TerraSAR-X acquisition modes are highly complementary with the full portfolio of Airbus Defence and Space’s constellation capabilities - particularly the high resolution SPOT 6 & 7 imagery or even very high resolution Pléiades ) imagery. A combination of radar and optical imagery is particularly valuable for reliable monitoring needs or derivation of complementary information to see the full picture (e.g. oil spill monitoring).
Airbus Defence and Space offers a full set of optical and radar sample imagery to explore the complementary use of these sensors. Additionally, the unique TerraSAR-X Image Manual (TIM) supports the training of your staff on the combined use of optical and radar datasets.

Did You Know?
TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X fly in a unique formation with distances down to only a few hundred meters. They are acquiring the data basis for the WorldDEM™ - a unique global DEM of unprecedented quality, accuracy, and coverage. WorldDEM™ will be the new standard of global elevation models and will be available for the Earth’s entire land surface - pole to pole.
The TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X missions are realised in the frame of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and Airbus Defence and Space. The scientific use of TerraSAR-X data is coordinated via DLR's TerraSAR-X Science Service System .
