Applications

SPOTViews can be used for:

• updating obsolete digital maps,
• mapping regions which have not been thoroughly mapped or which have never been mapped,
• making land use maps or natural resource maps,
• making new thematic layers.

Resolution and spectral mode
Depending on the level and detail required for specific applications:

Size
Depending on the surface of the area to be studied:

• full scenes: 60 km long x 60 to 80 km wide, according to the viewing angle.
• standard mapsheets centred on an area of interest (digital mosaic of several Spot scenes)
  - 30' x 30' : ~ 54 km x 54 km at the equator
  - 15' x15' : ~ 27 km x 27 km at the equator
  - 7'30" x 7'30" : ~ 13 km x 13 km at the equator

Preprocessing level

Depending on the level of geometric quality required and the type of terrain mapped:

• Accuracy (level 2B)
• Ortho (level 3)

Location accuracy

Generally better than 30 m (1 sigma), but this depends on the quality of the ground control points and/or the DEMs used during preprocessing.

For level 3 images, made using ground control points and a DEM derived from Reference3D, it is better than 10 m (1 sigma).

Format
The SPOT Scenes are supplied in the Dimap format.

Image improvement processing
Depending on the application in mind:

• SPOTView Basic: these do not undergo any image processing in order to keep the full information depth of physical values for thematic analysis.
• SPOTView Plus: these undergo processing to improve the image and are ready-to-use underlay products.
  SPOTView Plus products can be generated in natural colours to render natural landscape colours more faithfully.
